Select your certification pathway:

Why is school counseling certification in Alabama a requirement?

School counselors guide children throughout much of their childhood and help them successfully navigate the K-12 school system until graduation. They help ensure that students have what they need to pursue further education or a career beyond graduation. Their services also include helping students with mental health and social needs.

Certification ensures that school counselors have the right blend of training and knowledge to serve students to the best of their ability.

The job duties of school counselors can vary widely and include everything from career and college guidance to individual and group counseling.
